dope art | how it started

For the month of May MEME Gallery in Central Square Cambridge will be having a "Store Show", inviting artists to basically have one day to install the store, one day to open the store, and one day to de-install. Knowing I had only one day to have a show, I came up with a proposal to curate a large group show in which I would ask friends and artists to participate in. I wanted to curate a show that I have yet to see in Boston, I wanted to do a dime bag show.

The idea for the show was inspired by Jordin Isip and Rodger Stevens, co-curators of some amazing shows in New York. My aim is to inspire innovation and lively experimentation within a set of prescribed limitations. I'm interested in the idea of multiplicity, commonality, and accessibility. Each artist will recieve a 3" x 3" ziploc-style bag in which to create their work. It's open to all artists and mediums. MEME Gallery will host a one night exhibition of the work for sale on May 8, 2010. All work will be priced at 10 bucks each. Dope art for cheap, yo!

oh, this is going to be fun.
